1. Why did you choose Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»?
I chose Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» because of the nutrition program. Also, because I knew that I would flourish here academically, as well as professionally.
2. What inspired you to declare your major?
When I was in third grade, a family member of mine was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Watching how their life changed post-diagnosis made me very curious about how food works outside of how it looks and tastes. I decided to make it a goal of mine to understand the body, as well as stop the rapid rise of Type 2 diabetes and obesity in the United States.
3. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
Be the change that you want to see in the world.
4. Which Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» faculty or staff member has been the most influential throughout your Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» journey?
Aaron Bruce, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»'s chief diversity officer, has been the most influential person throughout my Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» journey. When I first showed interest in coming to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», he explained all of the opportunities I could have as an Aztec. Since I’ve been at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», he’s connected me to people on campus who have helped me meet my goals.
5. What does student success mean to you?
Success is not only measured by your GPA, but by the meaningful relationships you’re able to cultivate and the life lessons you learn along the way.
6. What experience at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» has changed your life the most?
Getting out of my comfort zone and joining two clubs my first semester at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» enhanced my social and professional skills outside of school.
7. What has been your proudest achievement while at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»?
Getting accepted as a transfer student and becoming a third generation Aztec behind my grandmother, who earned her administrative credential and masters degree, and my mother, who received her masters and Ph.D. from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³».
8. What is the most interesting or surprising thing about you?
I’ve played soccer for 17 years.
9. Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself in a hospital or clinic working as a dietician while working toward my master’s degree in public health.
10. What’s your favorite thing about being an Aztec?
My favorite thing about being an Aztec is being able to have class and interact with so many different people who come from diverse backgrounds.
