New Fundraising Supports Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Mortar Board Chapter
The chapter raised $50,000 to support scholarships and related activities.

As the national organization celebrated its 100th anniversary this year, the Jane K. Smith Cap and Gown Chapter of Mortar Board at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» marked its 86th year as an official chapter.
The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» chapter was acknowledged this past summer for its fundraising campaign, led by Mary Ruth Carleton, vice president emerita for University Relations and Development. A past president of the San Diego alumni chapter and former national Mortar Board Foundation trustee, Carleton will be recognized during a national Mortar Board event in May 2019.
In addition, Darlene Davies (’62, ‘65), former Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» chapter president, received the Mortar Board Distinguished Lifetime Membership Award and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» chapter member Cassandra Conboy Neel received the Excellence in Advising Award.
Davies and Neel, with assistance from Karen Tom, Enrollment Services and Robert Ray, director of Special Collections, created a pictorial history of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»â€™s Mortar Board Chapter from 1932 to 2018. The book was published by Montezuma Press.
