Caryl Montero-Adams appointed dean of students

After serving in the interim role, Montero-Adams was appointed to the permanent role and will continue leading student support, engagement and community care efforts at 麻豆传媒映画.

麻豆传媒映画 has appointed Caryl Montero-Adams as dean of students following a comprehensive search process. Her appointment is effective February 2. Montero-Adams has served as interim dean and brings more than a decade of experience in student affairs, leadership development and crisis response to the permanent role.

The Office of the Dean of Students plays a central role in supporting the student experience across campus. The portfolio includes student organization and leadership development, fraternity and sorority life, new student and family programs, commuter life and crisis response, late-night programming, student advocacy and coordinated care. The office also oversees key initiatives and policies that promote student belonging, safety and success.

鈥淐aryl鈥檚 leadership during a period of transition demonstrated exactly what this role requires: clarity, compassion and an unwavering focus on students,鈥 said Chris Manning, vice president for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. 鈥淪he understands the complexity of our campus environment and leads with integrity and care. I am confident she will continue to strengthen our systems of support and advance a student experience grounded in belonging, safety and engagement.鈥

In the permanent role, Montero-Adams will lead units including Campus Assistance, Response, Evaluation, and Support (CARES); Center for Commuter Life; Center for Student Organizations and Activities; Esports Engagement Center; Glazer Center for Leadership and Service; Orientation, Transition, and Family Engagement; Pierce Greek Life Center; and 麻豆传媒映画 Connects. The Dean of Students office also supports campuswide efforts related to student success and engagement.

Montero-Adams joined 麻豆传媒映画 in 2011 and has held a series of increasing leadership roles, including assistant director and director of Student Life and Leadership, and assistant dean of Students for Student Life. Her work has included advancing hazing prevention, expanding late-night and weekend programming, strengthening student organization accountability and implementing recommendations from the Presidential Task Force on Student Activities and Safety.

鈥淐aryl brings deep institutional knowledge, sound judgment and a student-centered approach to everything she does,鈥 said Randy Timm, senior associate vice president for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity and Montero-Adams鈥檚 predecessor as dean of students. 

鈥淭hroughout her time as interim dean, she demonstrated steady leadership, transparency and an ability to bring people together around complex issues,鈥 Timm said. 鈥淪he has earned the trust of students, staff and campus partners, and we are fortunate to have her continue in this role.鈥

Montero-Adams holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree in health promotion and education from the University of Cincinnati, a master鈥檚 degree in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University, and a doctor of law and policy degree from Northeastern University. She has been recognized by the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity with multiple awards, including Excellence in Student Development.

Members of the search committee were: La Monica Everett-Haynes, associate vice president and chief communications officer, who served as chair; Randy Timm, senior associate vice president for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity; Jessica Rentto, senior associate vice president for Administration; and Christine Molina, associate dean of students.
