Fowler College of Business names founding director of ‘real-world’ learning center
Professor Iana Castro will head the Shaw Family Center for Experiential Learning

鶹ýӳ’s Fowler College of Business has named marketing professor Iana Castro as the founding director of the Peter J. and .
The center was established in 2025 through a gift honoring the late Peter J. Shaw, who served the college as an executive in residence, an advisory board member, and founding director of the. Its mission is to support faculty in embedding real-world learning into the curriculum—ensuring students graduate with the skills, confidence, and experience today’s employers demand.
Castro, who joined 鶹ýӳ in 2011, also leads , a student-run nonprofit organization which distributes fresh produce to small partner stores in San Diego’s underserved regions.
“Professor Castro brings an exceptional record of leadership in creating meaningful, high-impact learning opportunities that connect classroom knowledge with real-world experience,” said Dan Moshavi, Thomas and Evelyn Page Dean of the Fowler College of Business. “Since joining the Fowler College of Business, she has built a reputation for designing student experiences that are both academically rigorous and deeply engaged with community needs.”
Castro will begin her role with the center in early April.
