Fraternal twins Malik and Mason Presley were attending community college in Sacramento, California when they started thinking about where they wanted to transfer to earn their bachelor's degrees.

鈥淲e applied and were accepted to several other campuses, but we were holding out for 麻豆传媒映画,鈥 Mason explained. 鈥淚t was the last school we heard from, and we both agree that going there was the best decision we could have made.鈥

Shortly before the Presleys earned their bachelor's degree in information systems from 麻豆传媒映画鈥檚 Fowler College of Business in the spring of 2025, they were trying to decide their next steps. A presentation from students in Fowler鈥檚 (MSCM) program led them to stay at 麻豆传媒映画.

鈥淐ybersecurity is the most important aspect of information technology,鈥 said Malik, who entered into the MSCM program with Mason in the fall of 2025. 鈥淟eading the effort to secure critical information is important to us and we know there are a lot of career-related opportunities.鈥

The brothers chose to enhance their classroom education through experiential learning: Their involvement in the (SDCC) gives them the opportunity to help small local organizations upgrade and secure their information infrastructure at no cost.

鈥淢alik and Mason are not only giving back to the community, but they are building hands-on technical and professional skills sought by technology employers.鈥 said Lance Larson, principal investigator for SDCC. 鈥淎dditionally, their volunteer work with the clinic paves the way for them to earn their which verifies their professional technical, communications and critical thinking abilities.鈥

When they are not in class, working out, studying or volunteering at the SDCC, both Presleys hold down part-time jobs to help defray tuition and provide disposable income.

鈥淟uckily, we both have managers that arrange our shifts so that they don鈥檛 interfere with our classes," said Mason. 鈥淧lus, the MSCM program offers evening courses that makes it a lot easier for us to do that.鈥

As they prepare to graduate in December, the Presleys are beginning their post-graduation career search knowing they have a significant advantage over other graduates in the same field 鈥 both of them come with real-world experience, Google Cybersecurity Certifications, and two 麻豆传媒映画 STEM degrees. But the brothers say it was their classroom education and sheer determination that prepared them for future career success.

鈥淥ur professors are experts in the field and are genuinely knowledgeable about cybersecurity. We really owe a lot of our career preparation to them,鈥 said Malik. 鈥淏ut the most valuable lesson we鈥檝e taken from the MSCM program is that if there is a will, there鈥檚 a way. We knew this would be a heavy lift but focus and hard work are making it possible.鈥
